The Shakers face a tough third cup match in eight days, as they prepare to take on Chadderton in the First Round Proper of the Isuzu FA Vase this Saturday. The prospect of playing in the Wembley final is a great motivator. And it’s a match for which the battle at the top of the NWCFL is incredibly relevant. Like the Shakers, Chadderton are having a great second season in the league. They are in second place, with 41 points from 19 games – five behind leaders Ramsbottom, having played two fewer games. Bury – fourth, with 32 points from 14 games – beat Chadderton 3-1 under lights at Gigg Lane little more than two weeks ago. Scorer Bryan Ly, was Man of the Match just days after his dramatic late FA Cup penalty beat Radcliffe. The other goals came from Lewis Alessandra and substitute Cam Fogerty. It will be good to be at Gigg Lane on a Saturday for the first time in four weeks. We were drawn away for this tie, but work on the pitch at the Falcon Fire Stadium – where a 3G pitch is being installed – meant the game has been switched. The last Saturday home game was our 3-0 defeat of Burscough, also in the Isuzu FA Vase – the leading knock-out competition for tiers 9 and 10. Get your match information below. In Opposition – Chadderton FC Drone footage showing the progress of our ground development @nwcfl pic.twitter.com/wBvuOddlPo — Chadderton FC (@ChaddertonFC) September 19, 2024 Chadderton were founder members of the North-West Counties League in 1982, but it took them 41 years to reach the Premier Division. They finally made it through the Division One North play-offs in 2023, and went on to reach a creditable seventh place in their first season. They beat the Shakers 3-1 at Gigg Lane and 3-2 at Andrew Street last season, following a glut of late goal drama in both games. The club traces its history back to 1946 and the launch of Burnley Lane Estate Juniors. It took its present name in 1957 and following a recent Premier League grant, and years of hard work, pitch redevelopments started in September this year to install a 3G pitch. This is due to be ready to play on in 2025. Footage of the works is provided on the post to the right, with Chadderton playing all home games this season at alternative venues, including Gigg Lane already. We are pleased to announce the opening of our military veterans lounge situated in the Main Stand. Supported by the Two Tubs public house, a family-run establishment in the heart of Bury Town Centre, the lounge will be used on Saturday match days and once a month as a ‘drop-in centre’. The Two Tubs landlady Donna Haslam explained “The Borough of Bury has many veterans and the inclusion of them within the community of Bury FC will be an important factor in their on-going welfare.” Community Officer Casey Lynchey added, “It’s great to see this come to fruition for the veteran community of the town. Working with a wide range of residents is part of the community strategy and I am hopeful that we can also provide some walking football opportunities for the group as well.” The lounge will officially open at our home match against Pilkington on 2nd November which coincides with the club’s annual remembrance service being held on the same day. To gain entrance Veterans will need to provide their ID Card to the Hospitality entrance at the ground. Entrance will cost £5. Each veteran will be given a wristband which will gain them entrance to the Vets Bar, however there is a limited capacity which will be monitored on the day. View the full article

Bury Football Club are delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder Patrick Jarrett. The 22-year-old has joined the Shakers after leaving Scottish’s side Queen’s Park in the summer. Born in Nantwich, he spent two years at Nantwich Town before moving into the academy at Stoke City, playing for the clubs up to the Under 21s before moving to Queen’s Park in 2022. Jarrett is a versatile player and can play across positions in midfield. He also offers great skill and has contributed a lot to creating chances at his former clubs. Manager, Dave McNabb added: “We’re really excited to see Pat settle in and show what he can do. I first watched Pat three years ago when he was on loan at Nantwich and he was outstanding. “He’s had some brilliant experiences since then playing at a really high level. I’m hopeful he can add to our midfield options and help push us on towards our goals for the season.” Jarrett will go into tonight’s squad for the Manchester Cup game against Abbey Hey. The FA Cup defeat at Harborough was a crushing blow, and ended our great run of 21 matches unbeaten in all competitions. But we’ve picked ourselves up, dusted ourselves down, and are all set for more cup action this week. First up are Abbey Hey, with Chadderton to follow in the Isuzu FA Vase at Gigg Lane on Saturday. The Shakers go into the Abbey Hey game with a squad of players mainly from the Under-23 team. This gives the youngsters an opportunity to shine and provides a bit of a break for players who have given so much in a hugely demanding season. The Under-23s are currently top of the 10-team Lancashire age-group league, with four wins out of four games played. The Premier Cup is awarded by the Manchester FA. The holders, Ashton United, have won the competition – full title the Frank Hannah Premier Cup – more often than any other club: 16 times in its 90-year history. In Opposition – Abbey Hey Abbey Hey made a reasonable start in their first season back in the NWCFL Premier Division after a break of five years, but have slumped in recent weeks. They are currently 10th in the league, six places below Bury, who have played five fewer games. Our 7-1 win at Abbey Hey back in August was the Shakers’ biggest of the season so far. Abbey Hey’s 2-1 victory at Burscough on Saturday was only the second in their last six games. The Gorton club reclaimed a place in the Premier Division by winning the 2023-24 play-offs in the league’s First Division South. Tickets PAY ON THE GATE: £7 adults, £4 concessions. The club will not be hosting a fireworks display this year. Over the summer we installed a new playing surface and a display of this nature would not be appropriate. We are delighted to confirm our new pitch partnership with the University Campus of Football Business (UCFB). The Manchester-based University will play a number of their Wednesday afternoon fixtures at Gigg Lane for the 2024/25 season. UCFB hosted a small sided tournament at the stadium last month to begin the partnership. Brendan Flood, Chairman and CEO, UCFB said: “I am delighted that UCFB’s elite football teams will have the opportunity to be based at Gigg Lane for the 2024/2025 Season. “The move will provide our student footballers with a fantastic opportunity to play their home fixtures at a wonderful stadium steeped in football history, helping to create the environment for both our Women’s and Men’s teams to thrive. “Furthermore, this builds on the emerging relationship between UCFB and Bury FC, which will benefit all parties and the wider community.” Bury FC CEO, Neil Sears added: “We are delighted to announce this pitch partnership with UCFB. Having attended the University myself, I know first hand the importance of gaining real world knowledge along with practical experience. “By collaborating with UCFB, this will both allow Bury FC to optimize the pitch usage during times which are traditionally harder to fill whilst also supporting the next generation of students hoping to get started in the sports industry. “We look forward to a continued partnership with UCFB which both benefits the club and also adds real value to industry.” View the full article

  13. We’re delighted to confirm our plans to Live Stream Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round tie against Harborough Town. Discussions have been taking place with various stakeholders to put in all the necessary arrangements this past week. We can now confirm a Live Stream will be available for £9.99 (inc VAT & fees) for fans that were not able to get a ticket for this huge game, with both sides looking to head into the First Round Proper. This weekend lands outside of UEFA’s broadcasting blackout directive due to the international break in the Premier League and EFL Championship. Games kicking off at 3pm are therefore able to be broadcast. However, the Live Stream is limited to those who are based in the UK only. This is in line with FA Competition rules. We have gained significant experience with Live Streaming our games in the last few seasons, including covering games away from home on a number of occassions. Despite some issues experienced, particularly during our play-off final match at Wythenshawe Town back in May, we have developed a strong package to deliver a solid service this weekend. This has included the hire of satillite equipment to guarantee as strong a signal as possible, as well as large portable power outlets to overcome restrictions at the ground and aid in setup times for the team in place to deliver the stream. This should reduce the chance of issues in delivering a stream into your home. The price of a household pay-per-view stream has been increased above our normal level to account for the additional infrastructure required to deliver the service. This has been set at £9.99 (inc VAT & fees). Commercial premises wishing to show the game, should pay the requisite fee provided on the ticket page when purchasing. We would like to thank the committee at Harborough Town for being accommodating to our request and working with us to provide this coverage, as well as the team of dedicated volunteers who have committed to the planning and setup throughout this week. We hope the coverage brings the game to the many supporters who would have loved to have been there in person! You can purchase your ticket for this stream below, via our ticket provider TicketCo HERE View the full article
  14. There’s a great opportunity for the unbeaten Shakers to do some more FA Cup shaking when we meet Harborough Town from the Southern League Premier Division this Saturday at the final qualifying stage of this season’s Emirates FA Cup. We’re the last Step Five team still in the tournament, and are up against a team from Step Three. But we beat Radcliffe from Step Two, and the prize this time is a place in the First Round Proper. So come on, you Shakers! It would be understandable if performances in our last two league matches were affected by thoughts of the Harborough game. After a 5-1 win at Longbridge which featured Mitch Allen facing three penalties within the first 60 minutes, we were then perhaps not at our best against Glossop North End at Gigg Lane on Tuesday evening. We were much the better team but failed to convert a number of chances. We went ahead 10 minutes into the second half with a penalty from the lethal Rustam Stepans and added a second nine minutes later when Bryan Ly blasted home from six-yards. Glossop fought to the end, and despite pegging the Shakers back and sharing the spoils we took our unbeaten run to 21 matches – but only just. Highlights and post-match interviews from Tuesday are available on our YouTube channel (links below). Maybe a culmination of playing a number of games in a short space of the season so far affected us going into the final 20 minutes on Tuesday, but this weekend is the fruits of the labour – a chance to reach the First Round Proper of the FA Cup and they don’t come around all too often when you start the competition in August and the Extra Preliminary Round! It is something sides from our step in the football pyramid have only achieved on two occasions in recent times. And up until 2019, it was where supporters were generally accoustomed to starting the road to glory, wouldn’t it be nice to be back there, after all that has happened since then? Read the story so far in our summary of the FA Cup HERE. We are most certainly ready to go and give it our all at a packed Bowden Park this Saturday. Follow the Shakers on this run and get all your match information below. In Opposition – Harborough Town This is very much a community club for Market Harborough in Leicestershire. They came into existence in 1975, took their present form in 2007, and run a wide variety of teams for all age groups. The Southern League Premier Division Central side are in 15th place, having won two, drawn four and lost three of their nine games. This is the first time they have come through to this stage of the FA Cup, after beating Step Two side Leamington in the last round. Highlights of this 1-0 victory can be found below: Last weekend Town – “The Bees” – lost 5-2 away to Northern Premier League Midlands Division side Sporting Khalsa in the Isuzu FA Trophy third qualifying round. Tickets THIS FIXTURE IS SOLD OUT. Supporters without a ticket are advised not to travel, there will be no ticket sales on the day. Limited coach tickets remain for supporters at a cost of £19 per seat, leaving Gigg Lane at 10am prompt on Saturday morning. Head to buryfc.co.uk/tickets to purchase. Travel & Parking Ground: Harborough Town Community Football Ground Address: Northampton Rd, Market Harborough Postcode: LE16 9HF Parking: Parking is available in the council car park adjacent to the ground as well as in agreed local designated areas. We kindly request you to respect our residential and business neighbours, and to arrive early to avoid congestion upon entry. Public Transport: It is possible to get a bus to the ground although it is not a particularly frequent service. The “X7 Stagecoach” bus operates between Leicester and Northampton. The closest stop is Market Harborough, Leisure Centre and is approximately a 5 minute walk following the instructions by car from the roundabout. Nearest train: Market Harborough Station (1 mile away) is served by frequent EMR (East Midlands trains) from London St Pancras and the East Midlands. There is a taxi rank available at the front of the station. approximate travel time is 10mins depending on traffic conditions. Driving: From A508 Southbound If you are travelling from the North Harborough Town’s ground is situated on the A508 towards Market Harborough Leisure Centre. Follow the A508 passing Protheroe’s Garage on your left-hand side and turn right at the next roundabout. Immediately bear left, follow the road around and you will see Harborough Town FC clubhouse diagonally across the car park. From A508 Northbound If you are travelling from the south (A14) travelling north on the A508 heading for Market Harborough for about 8 miles going through Great Oxendon. You will go down a hill and you will come to a roundabout, take the first exit, immediately bear left, follow the road around and you will see Harborough Town FC clubhouse diagonally across the car park Ground Facilities: Portable toilets will be placed at the top end of the ground, along with catering facilities for food and drink. Away fans have been allocated the area on the left-hand side of the pitch (rugby ground side), from the away dugout and along the top end of the ground (viewed left). There is also provision for 100 covered seats further around the top end. Non-League Dogs: Due to the large crowd, dogs (outside of those required for disabled supporters) will not be allowed in the ground this weekend. It is respectfully requested that our supporters remain in the ground for a short period of time after the game has finished. This is to all for the safe exit from the ground for all supporters. Match Coverage & Live Stream If you are unable to make the game, we’ll have all the live coverage across our media platforms. Live Stream (UK Users ONLY): With this weekend being an International Break and fixtures in the EPL / EFL Championship not scheduled to take place, the broadcasting blackout preventing 3pm kick-offs on Saturday’s being live streamed is not in place. Competition rules indicate that FA-run competitions are to be broadcast within the UK only. Following discussions with Harborough Town since the announcement of the draw and considering the interest in the sold-out fixture, the board at The Bees have worked with us on this and we are delighted to confirm that a live stream of this game to be provided online for supporters to follow from 2.30pm on the day. A team of media volunteers will be heading to the ground to setup from Saturday lunchtime. We thank Harborough Town for their support throughout, both in their informative dialogue and assistance with facility provisions. The stream will cost £9.99 (inc VAT & fees) for domestic pay-per-view users in the UK ONLY, and these will become available to purchase from Friday via our ticketing provider, TicketCo HERE A commercial premises stream will also be available. 16. Bury FC have made a shaking appearance in England’s oldest footballing competition, with the First Round Proper just one successful game away, writes Lily-Mae Cooper. A strong start for the Shakers entering in the Extra Preliminary Round on the 3rd of August with a 4-2 win against a predicted cohesive, strong Congleton Town. Star player for Bury, Alex Cherera showed dominance throughout the match as the winger scored three of the four goals, securing their place in the Preliminary Round. An unexpected tap off the head, up to the crossbar, and over the goal line for Ruben Jerome secured their last goal in the 73rd minute following a Bury corner kick. The busy second half produced three goals for Bury and one for Congleton, both sprang into action as the home team became under threat by the lead their opposition claimed before the break. Avro hosted Bury in the Preliminary Round on the 17th of August with yet another superior play from the Shakers at The Vestacare Stadium. Both teams fought against tough defence lines from the onset with possession flickering from one to the other. Bury’s resistance held up, successfully shutting down the early chances Avro created to bring it home. Full time came with 4 extra minutes and a final score of 2-1 with appreciation to goal scorers Alex Cherera, and Lewis Alessandra. Another controlled win against higher opposition. Drawn up against another team from a league above in the NPL East Division, Garforth Town, in the First Round Qualifier expectations were of a hard-to-top, strong-form competitor. Both Bury and Garforth met unbeaten. This set up for a harsh and grovelling first half, with little progression from either team. Once again Cherera broke the deadlock and scored in the 45th minute. He came back a second time to assist Alessandra in making his first touch and simultaneously goal of the match. Bury walk out victorious and still undefeated. 1,246 attendees made it to Croft Park to watch the undeniable force of Bury lead the Second Qualifying Round to a 3-0 win against Blyth Spartans. All goals in the second half, Cherea, Gomes, and Connor Pye took the Shakers to yet another undefeated victory. Visiting fans had a full view to celebrate the successes in the away end. Excitement bubbles at the thought of attaining a First-Round Proper game, two wins away from its possibility. Derby day was upon us. Ground reached compacity. Crowds of 2,800 filled the Neuven Stadium. Assistant manager, Tim Lees, reminisced on the clubs’ journey so far and said: “Every non-league player dreams of making it to the first round of the FA Cup.” “We have managed to continually knock out teams leagues above us with some excellent collective performances along the way”. The Third Qualifying Round witnessed the clash with neighbours Radcliffe. An afternoon of drama and unrest for Bury as the game kicked off out of their favour. Within the 7th minute, the three-division gap between the two materialised with an opposition goal. The dissatisfying result of an ignored offside request from the Shakers. It appeared this is all the underdogs needed to create speculation in their ability. A team of composure and pressurised attack unearthed itself at Neuven as the visitors began to push for opportunities. Plays from Alessandra and Gomes shake up the Boro nerves as they fight for an equaliser. It doesn’t come. The halftime break couldn’t end soon enough as Bury came crashing back into play. Sam Coughlan put in a shift in a lethal attack off a free kick sending it low across the goal line. In the 82nd minute, Bury pulled away from their host as Ruben Jerome made a solo break down the left channel, cleared the defensive line and bolted the ball past the fingertips of Radcliffe’s Hewelt. Just 5 tantalising minutes later Boro comes back burning as Josh Wardle receives a crossed free kick which tips past Mitchell Allen. A heart-stopping 90th minute rewarded the Shakers with a penalty heading into extra time. The reliable force of Bryan Ly slipped the ball past Hewelt sending him veering off in the opposite direction. It’s all over. Lees noted, “The jump in leagues brings a higher level in all areas; tactical, technical, and physical challenges and it has been a memorable run with Radcliffe being the pinnacle”. Bury claim this 3-2 derby success as their 18th run undefeated this season. The Fourth Qualifying Round will take our winners away to Harborough Town on Saturday the 12th October as they continue their impressive run through the FA Cup. Tim Lees insists on the dedication of his team. He said: “This weekend’s game brings another team two leagues above but I know I speak on behalf of all fans – we will do everything to be in that draw with an opportunity to play league one or two teams.” View the full article

  20. We need noisy fans in numbers to get behind the Shakers as they face Glossop North End in their 21st match of the season. Yes, we are indeed, still the mighty Shakers. Yes, we are unbeaten. And yes, we did beat North End 4-2 away three weeks ago. But the 5-1 win at Longridge on Saturday flattered us. Without Mitch Allen’s heroics in saving two out of three penalties it might have been a very different story. The 900 fans who made the journey up the M6 will have been delighted with the result, but maybe concerned that the match could all-too-easily have got away from us. They may well have wondered if the pressure of that unbeaten run and two matches a week, week after week, is beginning to tell? Just a few days after the Glossop match the Shakers have yet another big game – and yet another away from home. On Saturday, they travel 130 miles each way to take on Harborough in the final qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup. Another win in the league game would send them off in good spirits. So please…come on down!! Come on you Shakers!!! You can relive all the action from Saturday and hear post match reaction from Chris Watts & Ben Hockenhull below. In Opposition – Glossop North End Glossop had a terrible start to the season, but have won their last five league games – including a 5-1 defeat of Squires Gate on Saturday. They’re 16th in the league table, having scored 26 goals and conceded 31. They ended last season in 21st position. We played them three times, losing 2-1 at home and winning 1-0 away in the league, and losing 2-1 at Glossop in the Manchester Premier Cup. North End’s history dates back to 1886. They won the NWCFL Premier Division title in 2015 and in the same year they played at Wembley in the final of the Isuzu FA Vase, losing 2-1 to North Shields. We understand that this might come as a disappointment to supporters, but we have taken this decision in the best interest of the football club. View the full article
  22. We can confirm Andy Briggs has joined Northern Premier League side Widnes on dual registration. Andy has made 12 appearances off the bench this season and heads to Merseyside in a bid for more game time. Manager, Dave McNabb said: “Andy has had a bit of a stop, start season so far for various reasons. He hasn’t managed to get the game time he wants or deserves. “Now he is fully fit it makes sense for him to go an get some regular game time at Widnes. “Andy remains an important player and part of the long term plans.” Briggs added: “I would like to give a quick thanks to the fans for their unwavering support so far this season. Obviously, as a team it’s been a great start but from a personal point of view, this season I’ve not had as much game time as I would have hoped. “The fans however have been unbelievable throughout. As a player, playing games is the most important thing, so hopefully I can take this opportunity to get so much needed game time and I hope to see you all soon.” We’d like to wish Andy all the best for his time at Widnes and we’ll keep you updated on his progress.
